Do you know God as your Father?

To be rejected and left alone is a dreadful experience and one which can cause and leave deep emotional and psychological scars for life in those abandoned.  Simone Lang was an Australian school teacher who spent some time in India.  There, she taught in a Christian school to help educate the poor and those who could not afford to go to the state schools.  In the school was a little boy by the name of Jonathan and he lived in a nearby children’s home.

She got to know the little boy, and gradually he opened up his heart to her as she conversed with him.  His parents had abandoned him when he was three years old and had left him at the children’s home.  They had abdicated all responsibility for him and had left him to be brought up by others who would try to show him some sort of love and kindness.  His parents were still alive and one day he received a letter from them stating that they would come and visit him on a particular day, namely the first day of December.  This gave him a wonderful feeling and he shared his excitement of looking forward to seeing his parents with Simone. She realised that this would be a wonderful day for this little boy.

Sadly, the day came and he waited all day to see his parents but they never showed up.  The longing and excitement in his heart and mind died and when he next met with Simone in school he related the dreadfulness of that day with tears in his eyes.  He had once again been rejected and forsaken.  Simone looked at the little boy who was experiencing such a broken heart and she felt to some extent the pain and knew that she could not make up for his loss.

He stated, “I want a real mummy and a real daddy and a real family.”  Such words were heart wrenching and she wished she could put him in her backpack and take him home to Australia and care for him.  Then, to her surprise his eyes filled with hope, joy and assurance as he said, “But I’ve got Jesus”.  He, young as he was, had come to experience the blessing of the Saviour’s presence.  When everyone else may fail us Jesus never does.  He is the friend who sticks to us closer than a brother.  He is the One who said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”  And “I will be with you to the end of the age”.  To have such an eternal friend is a great and marvellous blessing.  That little boy knew it and so do the millions of true Christians living around the world today. The blessing of Christ in our lives as Saviour and Lord is a joy which is beyond words to describe.

Simone looked at that boy who had nothing materially but who had everything spiritually.  He had not been sidetracked even though he had been let down by his parents. He knew that God was his father and he was listening to the Lord and depending on Him.  Simone has said that never a day goes by that she does not think about the way Jonathan is listening to his heavenly father and is one hundred percent dependent on Him. What a blessing!
