Does It Matter Who Jesus Is?

Is Jesus Christ the Son of God?

Why are Christians are so convinced that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and why is it deemed to be so important? It’s an excellent question! Christian belief is laid on a very solid foundation. First of all we believe that God has revealed information, to the prophets who wrote the Bible, to point us in the right direction. Our beliefs are not just based on human research or discovery.

In other areas of life when we want to learn about something outside of our sphere of experience we seek information from a trustworthy source. So if you are researching space travel for the first time you would go to NASA or some other space agency to ask them questions. It is wise practice to go a reliable source.

Who on earth was #Jesus?

History records that Jesus did miracles and supernatural things. It's not just the Bible that records this, it's non Christian historians as well. For example Tacticus and Josephus. There are over thirty non biblical historians who record some aspect of the life of Jesus Christ.

The question isn't did Jesus live or did he do miracles but where did the power come from? Who was he? What's this all about?

The Bible asserts that he is the Son of God. If he is you had better sit up and take note.

He's the Saviour of the world!

He's the appointed judge!

He will return!

You will stabs before him and give account!

BE WARNED, BE PREPARED.

Mark 11:27-33 KJV

“And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders, And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?

And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.

And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him? But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.

And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

Would you die for what you believe?

I heard this week of a young man in Iran who has been taken to court and prosecuted for being a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. This young man is faced with a stark choice of either denying what he passionately believes and saving his life or standing for his faith and potentially losing his life.
If you were faced with this choice what would you do? Do you have such strong convictions that you would risk your life to stand up for them?
The whole idea of anything being so important that you would risk your life for it is quite foreign to the current western way of thinking. For most of us the issues that we deal with are not life threatening. What if, however, we were faced with this type of choice? How would you evaluate things in your life? From a top down view how would they rank in priority?
Health, Wealth, Relationships, Family, Beliefs, Car, House, Comfort, Safety etc. If you had to decide what were the most important things in your life and had a choice about what to keep and what to let go I wonder what your priorities would be?
I suppose if we are realistic it might depend on our circumstances when the question was asked. For instance - if you were ill you would not be so focused on your house, car etc. If you were in a plane which had developed problems with its landing gear you would be more interested in getting a parachute than being in the first class section!
Now stop and think for a moment. Your body will die but you, the real you will never cease to exist. The Bible says ‘it is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgement’ (Hebrews.9.27). This is one of many statements from the Bible that teach that there is life after death and that we are accountable to God. God sent His Son, Jesus into the world to pay for our wrong, sin and evil by His death on the cross. Jesus rose from the dead three days later so that the message of ‘the forgiveness of sins’ could be made known to the world.
Now if you really believed all of this you would soon realize that there is nothing in life that is as important as knowing God. All other matters only relate to this life and have no relevance to the next. So if pushed a Christian realizes that to lose their life in this world only opens the door to the next. As they are already forgiven and heading for heaven there is nothing to gain by recanting their faith. The one they believe in, the Lord Jesus Christ, is the only one who can save them in this life and secure their destination in the next.
If it was you. What hope would you have and where would your loyalty lie?

We need more than food to survive!

It can be tempting to just see life as purely a physical thing and to ignore the other dimensions that we know in our heart exist. There are some people who would say that unless they can see something they do not believe it exists. This is quite a short sighted argument even on a basic level. I have never been to Australia but I know it exists because people whose judgement I trust have been there and described it to me.

I believe in God and I believe in a literal heaven (and hell to be honest). Now I have never seen God or been in heaven but I am persuaded that there must be a greater power, a designer and originator by the evidence I see in the physical world. However I would be totally in the dark as to what God and heaven are like if I did not have the record of the Bible and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Any thinking person will be need to be convinced that the Bible is a trustworthy document and that Jesus Christ was and is genuine in his character and claims before they will believe what they have to say. If you are reading this and are interested to discover the truth then have a look at the following websites josh.org or rzim.org (these are not wacky extremist websites but rational and logical explanations of the truth). Don't look at them if you have already decided what you believe and have a closed mind, they are only for people who really are prepared to face up to the truth.

May God bless you this week.

Stephen
