6 things we cannot do without

Somehow this coronavirus has changed nearly everything for us - working life, family contacts, church activities, shopping patterns and much more. We are really missing some of these, but we are learning to cope and are adapting remarkably well. When things get back to (more) normal, will we still benefit from the lessons we are learning just now?

We are learning that there are many things we can do without, and that many other things are more important than we thought, things that perhaps we have been taking for granted. For example:

The greatest thing life can offer!

If we were to ask a group of people "what is the greatest thing in life?" we would probably get as many answers as there were people. Certainly, many things contribute to a full and happy life, but we hope many would agree that knowing God is absolutely the greatest and most important of all. Without that, everything else loses meaning.

Building, maintaining and often repairing our horizontal relationships is a real-life experience and can be very demanding. We can be so occupied with our relationships with family, friends and associates that we overlook the most critical relationship of all – our personal relationship with GOD. The vertical relationship. We should not settle for just a knowledge of GOD or a belief in GOD, neither will take us to GOD'S Heaven. We must have a personal relationship with HIM.

Standing up for others

History records many who stood up for a cause or a people, and in so doing were prepared to face physical suffering, or to be reproached or put to shame.

One day, Jesus arrived in the synagogue, where people used to gather to hear the Bible read, and taught. Amongst the company was a man who had a withered, deformed hand. As Jesus entered, a company of religious folk watched to see whether He would heal this man on the Sabbath day, which they considered to be a breach of the law. They were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, and so bring His work, and His following to an end.

Life Rule - Always expect the unexpected!

Life is so unpredictable. At times this can be exciting but sometimes it is extremely frightening.

There are many situations in life that we cannot control. Illness, the weather, what other people do and say and how other people drive for example. Some things can be avoided and we can take precautions but many circumstances are outwith our control. The ultimate example being death. We may be able to take our life by force (it is tragic when someone gets to that level of despair) but we cannot and do not live for ever and have no power over the day of our death.
