Who do you think Jesus was?

Mar 15:39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

 All that the centurion witnessed on that historic day brought him to this conclusion ‘truly this man was the Son of God’ As we consider all that the Saviour said and did we conclude the same. How fundamental is this truth in days when so many try to deny it.

 Our passage today brings us to Calvary and reminds us of all that happened there. This day was pivotal in the history of the world. It was planned before the world began, spoken of in the Garden of Eden and illustrated by pictures and type throughout the Bible.

The Lord Jesus Christ is at the centre of these events as the Lamb of God that bears away the sin of the world. Have you been to the foot of the cross and realised what the Saviour did for you? Have you bowed the knee in repentance and believed in your heart that it was for you personally that He died? Do you believe that the man who died on that cross that day was none other than the Son of God? If not then this remains the single most important thing that you can do in your life. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved!

Jesus Christ was a unique man. He was unique in His birth; born of a virgin Mat 1:23. He was unique in His life; in Him is no sin 1 Jn 3:5. He was unique in His death; death had no claim on Him. He was unique in His resurrection. There have been those who set out to disprove this truth of the resurrection and ended up writing about the evidence that supports it after they themselves came to trust the one that they wanted to disprove. Truly this man was the Son of God!

European Tour Final Stop - Rome - Acts 28

Scripture Passage

Acts chapter 28

Scripture Verse

Acts 28:28 ‘Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles’

This the final episode of Paul’s journey to Rome. How will he get there?

At the end of the last blog post on the Book of Acts all the men on the ship escaped to the shore safely. The soon found out that they were on the island of Malta. The local people were really kind. They made a fire to warm them up. It was rainy and they were cold.

Is Liverpool like the City of Rome?

In a number of ways Liverpool is like the city of Rome; not least because it is built on seven major hills. These are;

  • Walton Hill,
  • Everton Brow - or Ridge,
  • High Park in Toxteth and the Toxteth Ridge,
  • Mossley Hill,
  • Childwall Hill,
  • Olive Mount and the Old Swan Ridge,
  • and Camp Hill in Woolton.
The above list make up the seven, distinctive, and genuinely geological ‘high points’ of our wonderful City.
Another association that we have with Italy’s ‘Eternal City’ is our many remarkable public and civic buildings in the city-centre, which were built by the Victorians. these stand as a glorious testament to their belief that, just as Rome was the capital of that great empire, so Liverpool was the trading capital of the British Empire - in fact, it was the 'second city' after London. (information freely available on the web)
In closing may I quote the first section of the Book of Romans in the Bible. These are words that are worth repeating:

Romans 1 New King James Version (NKJV)

Greeting

Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of Godwhich He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name, among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;
To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
