Who gave you the right?

Mark 11:27-31
The Authority of Jesus Challenged

And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him, and they said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?” Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. Was the baptism of John from heaven or from man? Answer me.” And they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him? ’

Some questions to think about?

1. Who was Jesus?
2. Why did he have such authority and who gave it to Him?
3. He claimed that he had, and still has, power on earth to forgive sins! Do you believe you need forgiveness and that Jesus Christ is the only one qualified to provide forgiveness?

Thanks for thinking!

Day 3 - Aberdeenshire CYC

Great excitement after a rather wet day. Today was wet and as a result the planned activity of walking to Pitlochry was cancelled. Life's a bit like that! The word of God says 'boast not yourself of tomorrow for you know not what a day will bring forth'.

Tonight's activity involved building a balloon tower. The tallest won the competition. I think the young people enjoyed bursting the balloons at the end as much as building the tower. All good fun.

The messages today included the one about the rich young ruler (Mark 10:17-31) who claimed to have observed all the points of the law raised by the Lord Jesus but failed on the test of 'thou shalt not covet'. His wealth got in the way of following Christ. There is nothing wrong with money in itself but "the love of money is the root of all evil" (1 Timothy 6:10). I wonder what could stop you from following Christ. Nothing is worth losing your soul!

Photos and update CYC Day 2

Great day at CYC apart from getting soaked at the 'Wet n Wild' water event. Being the visiting speaker it was my privilege to be the target for the young people to throw water bombs at. Good fun but drenched at the end.

In the meetings we talked about The Lord Jesus being the only way to God and salvation and the 'breastplate of righteousness' which believers have to take for their protection. Great truths.

The pictures are of the campers evening activities. Lots of fun.

Day 1 - Aberdeenshire CYC

A sample of team banners prepared on Saturday evening.

Team activities in the sun.

Rehydrating in front of Faskally House.

We had a good day at CYC. The weather continues to be brilliant (literally) and the attention in the meetings was really good.

This morning we talked about the lady who met the Lord Jesus at Sychar's well. What a shock she got when she discovered that Jesus was the Messiah (the one sent by God) and that he is the Saviour of the world. I wonder if it has ever dawned on you who Jesus really is? If you believed that He is the Son of God, that He came into the world to save sinners (you and I) and that he really came back to live three days after his death it would revolutionise your life.

I remember reading the comments of an atheist who said to a Christian "if I really believed what you claim to believe about Jesus Christ, sin, God's judgment and salvation I would tour the world until my last pound was spent and my last ounce of energy gone telling people about the great way of salvation".

I believe it! Do you? If so what are you doing about it.

Off to CYC @ Faskally House

Off for a week of bible teaching and gospel work at CYC Camp at Faskally near Pitlochry.

The train journey involved standing for a while (see first picture) and considerable rerouting due to problems earlier in the day but the scenery and sights made up for it. It is good to know that whatever rerouting takes place on earth one day we will make the final journey into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. For those who believe there is "a place prepared" (John 14). I wonder where the final stage of your journey will take you. To be sure it's heaven remember that Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14.6). Peter adds in Acts 4.12 "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Setting Sun over the Mersey

It was fun watching the sun set from the beach tonight. We had over 50 at a young people's barbecue. Great fun. The serious part was the message and warning about getting up the estuary to the port of Liverpool safely.

You can't get up the River Mersey safely without a pilot.

You can't get to heaven without Jesus Christ in your life. You can only get Him in when you confess your sin and trust Him to save you.

Trust that the Lord blesses you with these thoughts.

Back on the streets of Liverpool

Today I was back on the streets of Liverpool preaching the glorious message of God's grace. Coca Cola had display unit with queues of up to 100 waiting to visit it. People had to wait for a long time, for a bottle of coke with their name printed on the label. Talk about a captive audience! What a joy to announce the great news of forgiveness of sins through "repentance to toward God and faith in The Lord Jesus Christ". We also had up to 40 sitting about having lunch in the sunshine. It's in the mid 20's today so it is great for people sitting about.

Someone suggested I should have preached about "it's one thing to get your name on a label - it's even better to get your name in the "book of life". Good idea, I was too slow.
