Key facts about the Bible

This is a short statement explaining the key message of the Bible.

It starts with the fact that God created us. Subsequent to our creation Adam, the first man, made a choice to disobey God. The result is that we as a human race do not know God personally. This is because we all inherited sin and are children of disobedience. The Biblical statement summarising this fact is found in Romans chapter five - 'by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin'.

Ultimately God will hold us accountable for our beliefs and behavior on the great judgment day. This all sounds depressing and it would be if the rest of the story was not told.

The rest is this: God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world 2017 years ago. History and the Bible record His life, death, burial, resurrection and return to heaven.

Jesus was perfect and unique. For 33 years he lived on this planet. His life provides sufficient evidence to demonstrate that He was God. By evidence I mean the miracles and teachings of Jesus.

The Bible records His death and coming to life again after three days, the Bible calls it resurrection. First Corinthians 15 states - 'Christ died for our sins....he was buried... and He rose again the third day according to the scriptures'.

The claims of the Holy Scriptures, the Bible, are that Jesus paid the full price God demanded in payment for human sin. It states that He 'offered one sacrifice for sins for ever'.  God offers to all people personal forgiveness and the removal of our legal guilt before Him when we turn from our sin to God and trust Him for salvation. Again scripture says 'through this man is preached the forgiveness of sins'.

What should you do about it?

The scripture says 'if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness'.

That's the offer - what will you do about it?
