Who can you trust?

When I was a young lad financial institutions were so secure that we thought that it was impossible for one to "go bust". That is probably why I joined one at the age of 20, but here we are in the 21st century and we cannot even trust a financial institution. What is left that is dependable? What worries me is that we are told one day that everything is fine by the very people, who then have to admit that everything has gone wrong so soon afterwards.

Truth seems to disappear, all for the sake of public confidence in something that is already destined to fail. Well those of you who have been reading these messages for any length of time, will know that I believe that God can be trusted. The Bible affirms that 'God cannot lie' and that the things that He says are 'true and faithful' i.e. they are to be trusted.
One of the 'true and faithful' things that God says in His word is, that ‘Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners'. This statement can be trusted.

Firstly it is true historically and factually. Jesus did live, He did die and He did claim that He had come 'that we might have life'.

Secondly it is true practically - that is if we come to God and confess to Him that we got it wrong, that we have broken His law and that we deserve what is coming to us, He will save us. That means He will legally grant us a pardon.  In the apostle Paul's letter to people in Rome, he reminded them that God will give us "a new beginning and a new power to live"

The prospect of what is the other side of the hill, always fascinates people. Things, we are told, are always better somewhere else. Streets paved with gold have lured many, leading to eventual disappointment. Whilst we have this outlook about things, we will never see what is right before our eyes.

Contrary to the experience of others, the grass can always be greener, it depends on who has sown the seeds and the kind of seeds used. On a daily basis, God has something new for our lives; people to help and encourage; words that will make a difference to someone. There is a special feeling about knowing we have brightened somebody’s day

Despite the threatening clouds of pain and distress around us, God has a way of dispersing them, so that we can bask in the sunshine of His love that was always there, though temporarily out of sight. Like the sun, because it is unseen, it does not mean it does not exist. “The Lord hears the good man when he calls to Him for help and saves him out of all his troubles. The Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking.”

When contemplating the future, some feel there is not much to hope for. Be sure, the future is in God’s hands, not ours; therefore, do not try to understand things as we see them. “If we can see what we are waiting for, that is not really hope. People do not hope for something they already have, but we are hoping for something we do not have yet……patiently.” Choose your future over your past. Your reward and companionship is in Christ.

“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”
