Queues at bus stops aren’t too bad unless it’s raining and there is no shelter. Airport queues can be very long but at least they move, perhaps slowly. At supermarket check-outs, do you go for the shortest queue, then in frustration find that someone’s problem holds everyone up? The worst thing is when someone jumps the queue and gets the last place available!
I was reading recently about a poor man who had been waiting in a queue for 38 years. It was actually more like a free-for-all than an orderly queue. He and many others were waiting beside the Pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem for its water to be stirred up, because when that happened, the first one to get down into that pool was cured. He had tried many times, with no one to help him, but never managed to be first in the queue. Someone else beat him to it. He was frustrated and weary with waiting.
It all changed when Jesus came along and found him. He got one-to-one immediate attention. No more waiting. Jesus healed him at once and he walked off home. This story is at the beginning of John chapter 5. Later, at verse 24, the Lord Jesus tells us that with no queues and no waiting, we can get eternal life if we hear His call and believe in Him. If you wait and hold back, the opportunity might pass and you could miss it. He wants to give you salvation and eternal life here and now.
