Through the Bible in 66 Days - Acts

The Book of Acts is the second volume written by Dr Luke, the same careful historian who wrote the Gospel of Luke. He continues his account for his friend Theophilus, showing what happened after the Lord Jesus rose from the dead and returned to heaven. If Luke’s Gospel tells us what Jesus began to do and teach, Acts tells us what Jesus continued to do through His people by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Acts is a fast‑moving book—full of journeys, preaching, conversions, opposition, miracles, and changed lives. It begins in Jerusalem and ends in Rome, showing how the gospel spread from a small group of believers to the heart of the Roman Empire. In other words, it takes the message of Christ from Jerusalem to Rome, covering the whole known world.

Two Main Sections — Peter and Paul

The book divides neatly into two parts:

Chapters 1–12 — Peter and the Gospel in Jerusalem

Peter is the main preacher, and Jerusalem is the centre of gospel activity. Thousands hear the message, and many believe.

Chapters 13–28 — Paul and the Gospel to the Nations

Paul becomes the main messenger, travelling across the Roman world—Antioch, Cyprus, Asia Minor, Greece, and finally Rome.

The message is the same in every place:

Jesus is the Son of God. He died and rose again, and salvation is found in Him alone.

Key Conversion Stories

Acts 2 — Peter’s Call to Repentance

On the Day of Pentecost, Peter stands up and preaches boldly. He tells the crowd that the Jesus, whom they crucified, is both Lord and Christ. When they ask what to do, Peter replies:

“Repent… and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38)

Three thousand people believed that day. The first church is born, and the gospel begins to spread.

Acts 8 — A Traveller Reading His Bible Meets the Saviour

A man from Ethiopia is travelling home, reading Isaiah, but he doesn’t understand it. God sends Philip to explain that the prophecy is about Jesus. When the man realises who Jesus is, he believes with all his heart.

“I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

(Acts 8:37)

He is saved, baptised, and goes on his way rejoicing. A searching man finds a saving Saviour.

Acts 10 — A Good Man Who Still Needed the Gospel

Cornelius is a respectable, religious Gentile—but he still needs Christ. Peter tells him the message clearly:

“Preaching peace by Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all.”

(Acts 10:36)

Cornelius believes, and the Holy Spirit comes upon him. The gospel is now reaching the nations.

Acts 16 — Three Very Different People, One Saviour

Acts 16 gives us a beautiful picture of how the gospel reaches all kinds of people.

1. Lydia — A Quiet Businesswoman

She listens carefully to Paul’s message, and:

“The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.” (Acts 16:14)

A gentle, thoughtful conversion.

2. A Slave Girl — Broken, Oppressed, and Controlled

She is spiritually tormented and financially exploited. But Christ sets her free. The gospel reaches the wounded and the trapped.

3. The Philippian Jailer — A Tough, No‑Nonsense Man

An earthquake shakes the prison, and he fears the worst. But Paul tells him the greatest truth he will ever hear:

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31)

He believes, and his whole household hears the gospel.

Three people. Three backgrounds. One Saviour.

The Gospel Message in Acts — Clear and Powerful

Acts is full of simple gospel statements:

• “Through this Man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins.” (Acts 13:38)

• “Everyone who believes is justified.” (Acts 13:39)

• “The Lord Jesus Christ… who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (explained throughout Paul’s preaching)

• “Preaching peace by Jesus Christ.” (Acts 10:36)

The message is always the same:

Jesus died, Jesus rose, and Jesus saves all who trust in Him.

Reviewing Progress - From Jerusalem to Rome — The Gospel for the Whole World

Acts begins with a small group of believers in an upper room. It ends with Paul preaching freely in Rome, the centre of the empire:

“Preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ.”

(Acts 28:31)

The risen Christ is still building His church. The gospel is unstoppable. And the same message that saved people in Acts saves people today.

Repent.

Believe.

Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

And you will be saved.
